Dreams are on the front screen of our coming attractions, and we are paying attention to our dreams now more than ever before. Our lives have slowed down enough for us to spend some quality time connecting with our inner world. Some of us were getting previews of a possible future in our dreams, long before we would live it out. My dream from last year on April Fools Day, upon first look, seems quite fanciful. Looking back at it now, I can see several psychic hits that have surfaced in waking reality.
Epic Storm of the Era April 1, 2019
My dreams from that night were tumultuous and showed a massive dark storm on the horizon, which was affecting the entire world. An epic storm of the era, with a massive dark storm front. As the storm cleared, I saw whales swimming in the air, there was so much water there. It was magnificent to see these gentle giants flying through the air. The Whales appeared twice in the dream, and once near the end. The second time they were swimming through the sky, feeding on all the fish in the atmosphere.

Reality Check – A Whale Mural in downtown Dallas has been covered up for years with advertising. The Mural recently returned due to the slowdown from the Covid pandemic. Please sign the petition to keep the Whale Mural from being covered again!
Then I saw large herds of deer and horses, coming down the mountain trying to find safe ground, the first storm was averted, and they were there in a kind of frantic relief, and then went off again searching for higher ground, before the next coming storm would hit.
Reality Check – The CDC and other health experts warn of the 2nd wave of the virus in the Fall. The animals are returning to take over urban areas while humans shelter inside.

The end of the dream, I was walking through the empty streets of downtown Dallas, and not a soul could be seen after the storm had swept through. I went into a nearby shop and there was nothing on the shelves. There were 5 women with light green masks standing in front of a large picture window. I asked them why they wore the masks, they said to bring in the protective energies of mermaid and muse, to avert the storm. I thanked them for their protection.
Reality Check – People are now wearing masks to protect themselves when they go out. The streets of Downtown Dallas are empty from so many sheltering inside. Many are looking at the big picture, and looking for creative approaches and inspiration.
Moving into the future many will feel more responsibility to create a world in harmony with the Earth and Sky, the Whales and fish of the Sea, and animals of the land. We understand that the real protection we seek, is a return to balance with the Earth, and it will require our creativity, imagination, and dreams in order to do so.
Action Plan – Re-Enter the dream to look through the big picture window to get a view of the big picture moving forward, invoking the presence of mermaid and muse as guides.
The world we live in is turned upside down, a time of sheltering in, masking, cleansing and caring for ourselves, our environment and our neighbors. We have learned that it is not given, that our leaders will care for us, and in many cases are putting lives at risk. We must be alert to how this is impacting our communities and what needs to happen to make sure we make it through these rough waters as swiftly as we can. We are in uncharted waters in large respect. This is why paying attention to our dreams, and getting the messages, is so crucial to our times.
I have had several dreams alerting me to the upcoming crisis over the past year, one spoke of the storm of the ages, affecting the whole world.

Synchronicity alert – April 3, 2020 a year after the dream, today a friend surprised me by dropping off 5 green masks at my home.
Then on President’s Day this dream came – Lineage of Ulysses 2/17/20
I am in an old home, an estate or mansion, on a large piece of property. The man who manages it was the estate holder, an older man, who is eccentric and very psychic as well. He reminds me of an artist I know in the present. He is a personality who operates on many levels of awareness, and in many times. I am both fascinated and afraid of him. He is opening doors to the mansion, which have been hidden, and telling the stories of our lineage.
I find myself now in the dream, as a young girl, with her younger brother, we are between 7 and 9. We are walking down a path, past an ancient grove of trees, heading toward a graveyard. There are Union Soldiers accompanying us. We are told that the two of us are actually part of another lineage. I was told we are connected to the lineage of Ulysses. This estate belonged to him.
Here there are doors opening to rooms to where the children played. I am shown into the nursery, and when I enter, “I say it smells like breast milk in here.” I notice the presence of a spirit of a Grandmother in this space. She was kept in here with the children, and went a bit crazy. I walk around and see a young girl covered in a blanket, who has been sleeping there. She has longer blondish brown hair, cuddled up in a grey blanket shivering in her sleep. She was being haunted by the spirits in this place. I felt bad she had to sleep there. I could feel so many spirits there. I picked up another blanket to wrap around her, and realized even the blanket was haunted. Haunted by the spirits of confederate soldiers. She woke up shortly after, and I took her out of this place.
While I was there in the haunted nursery, I was shown a phone system for taking messages. It was going to be my job to take messages and save them and send them to the estate holder. The phone began to ring, and messages began to come in, and I began to realize how big of a responsibility it was to manage the many phone messages and make sure they got to him. I told the person giving me the phone and the responsibility, I did not want to do it. Note – The phone system appeared as a telegraph, while I held a silver flip cell phone in my hand. Like two times and places overlapping. The calls coming in were from departed spirits. It was my job to receive the calls through the switchboard, and then transfer them to the estate holder by calling on my cell phone, to leave a message on his voicemail.
I go back to speak with the estate holder. He is controlling and a bit mad, as in crazy. His energy is frantic and stressed at the work he must complete, and the burden of being a lineage holder. Taking on the messages that come in. I am afraid to tell him I cannot take messages for him from the spirit realms coming into his cell phone. There are too many to manage. He is upset because he says he doesn’t have time for this. He is in the process of creating something, a painting maybe or working on it in his imagination. I see a big white canvas or screen that he is focusing on, it seems to have something to do with technology, like a screen.
Reality Check – So many people died during the Civil War that people were desperate to connect with loved ones, which gave rise to the Spiritualist Movement, a progressive spiritual and social movement that was primarily comprised of the abolitionist, and women’s suffrage movements. A similar movement is now going on, in terms of Social Change and Spiritual not Religious, while the Religious Right seeks to destroy Civil Rights and Women’s Rights. This was before knowledge of the current pandemic, which gives a deeper understanding of the departed spirits wanting to get a message across, it was a warning about how many may die, like in the Civil War. In my actual lineage research, I found that Ulysses S. Grant and his wife were very much in tuned with dreams as a glimpse of coming events, and also in communication with departed spirits.
The overlay of technology and time in my dream, gives me the sense that this is something playing out in the present, that has happened in the past.
I was not able to locate any ancestral lineage connected with Ulysses S. Grant, but when I had lunch with a friend shortly after this dream, and mentioned doing research into the Civil War, synchronicity showed up when she offered she was related to Ulysses S. Grant.
I did find however, I am related to Abraham Lincoln, who dreamed his own death. Grant’s wife, Julia Dent was a also a prophetic dreamer and intuitive psychic. She alerted her husband, they would decline the invitation to accompany Abraham Lincoln and his wife to the theater that night. (Burch, p. 21)
I have had several follow up dreams re-entering this dream, to enter the body of the girl sleeping in the nursery, haunted by spirits surrounded by death, and grief. In doing so I was able to track the traumas passed on through generations in dealing with the tremendous losses of the war. Generational healing and soul recovery along the mother line. Healing the sadness, grief, and depression that has been passed down through the generations, eventually breaking through to a place of freedom and thriving. At end of the dream, the presence of Mark Twain was seen hovering overhead.
Historically, he played a role in the life of Ulysses near his end. He helped him publish his memoirs, and his recovery from financial ruin after a stock market crash. It was a synchronicity which alerted Twain in a conversation he overheard that the President, was writing his memoirs for another publisher, who was being greedy. Twain stepped in to remedy the matter forming an alliance with the President to help him finish his memoirs before he died, and then publishing and promoting to the public, becoming a huge seller (Moss p. 198).
These signposts of synchronicity to tell us we are on the right track, and dreams from history being mirrored in important ways currently, can offer timely messages put forth into our lives and our world.

When I was in my mid 20’s I had a precognitive dream, which saved my life, which I wrote about in my blog post, It’s Only Just a Dream. I have had many instances of dreaming the future over the past 30 years of keeping a dream journal. I find that it is not only common but entirely natural for us to do so. When you keep a dream journal and go back and look at your recorded dreams you may be surprised to find how many instances of precognitive information showing up.
But how do these dreams show up? Well in the case of the dream that saved my life, the dream came through with specific details and a visceral feeling of experiencing my own death. It felt very physical and it had many reality cues that told me this could happen in waking life. This is an important part of determining psychic information in dreams, by questioning if the dream could play out in waking life. Get as many specific details as possible from the dream, so that informed action can be taken. Sometimes the information presented in dreams can be psychic information intermixed with metaphorical imagery, and so it is important to realize that our dreams are multi-layered and can hold both precognitive and symbolic information. The dream which saved my life however was not about a symbolic death, and if I had viewed it that way, I may not be here right now. Since I am here to share with you, let me give you several examples of how precognitive dreams have shown up for me .
Years ago I was offered a position as Assistant Director at a non-profit organization where I volunteered. I was not so sure if this was a direction I wanted to focus my career at the time, so I asked my dreams to give me guidance. That night I had a dream of standing before a 3 tier water fountain with red rose petals floating in the water on each level. I woke from the dream feeling loved and blessed. It seemed a very good sign for me to take the position and so I did. Shortly there after, an event was organized to announce the new role I had been given as Assistant Director and when I walked into the atrium of the building, I found a three tier fountain with red rose petals floating in the water from a wedding that had taken place there the night before.
As someone living in Tornado Alley in Texas, I can tell you I have had many Tornado dreams over the years. Many of these dreams have been more related to big changes coming my way and times of upheaval beyond my control. I did have a dream however that was more specific and showed the biggest blackest Tornado I had ever seen and it was traveling down highway 35 North of Austin. I was told in the dream that this was an F5 Tornado, which at the time I had never heard of an F5 tornado because they used to be so rare. I decided not to go on a planned trip to drive to Austin that weekend based on this dream, and that very weekend the horrible F5 Tornado hit the small town of Jarrell, Tx. just North of Austin, Tx. on Hwy 35 and completely wiped out the town.
The morning of Sept. 11, 2001, I was dreaming about being in New York City and it was if I was in the middle of a war zone. There were ashes coming down out of the sky and people running frantically through the streets in shock. I was conscious in the dream, aware I was dreaming and that I was there to help. A woman came over to me and told me she was so glad I was there. I looked at her and saw she was missing an arm. I realized she was dead and she did not even know it. I told her, “don’t you know you’re dead?” She looked down at her missing arm and realized it was true. I pointed her in the direction of a huge portal of light, bordered by two beams of bright blue light. I played the shamanic role of psycho-pomp in helping to guide her through the portal to the other side. Then I woke up! I thought it was one of the strangest dreams I had ever had. I got my kids ready and took them to school and on the way home, turned on the radio to hear the first plane had crashed the Twin Towers. I rushed home to turn on the Television and saw a seen that looked eerily like my dream of ashes coming down from the sky and people running frantically for their lives through the streets. The portal with the blue lights showed up 6 months later as the first memorial for those who lost their lives in the attacks.
I often dream of people before I meet them in physical form, and I have done so with several important mentors and teachers in my life, including my longtime friend and mentor, Jean Campbell who wrote “Group Dreaming: Dreams to the Tenth Power”. She has brought me into connection with dreams as social events, rather than solely solitary metaphoric glimpses of the psyche. Dreams are a place where we can go to get together with others from this realm and other realms of non-ordinary experience.
Keeping a dream journal and sharing dreams with others is one of the most helpful practices you can have if you want a stronger understanding and presence of dreams in your life. It can put you on the path of how dreams can help you to navigate and create your every day waking world.
I woke from this dream the morning of the recent attack which left 5 Dallas police officers dead and 11 other wounded, including a peaceful protester in Dallas, Texas last week.
The Universal Collective Mirror 7-7-16
I am contacted by an activist friend, who wants me to help her plan a community meeting and find a venue to hold a large crowd. I see a community center which has a large pond outside the venue. I mention to her there is one in Oak Cliff, and she asks me whether it is safe to have it there. I say there are plenty of police and it is safe. I walk into the lobby of the community center and see there is a large circular mirror hanging from the ceiling and it is held by antique silver fittings with a lotus design cradled by spirals.
I hear a voice inside the mirror tell me, “Here you will gaze into the Universal Collective and see what is yours to do.” I look into the mirror and see a shiny clear surface and realize this is a space I can revisit to see what reflection is there for me.
I then find myself in another part of the community center, where there are art classes being taught and I decide to take a painting class and also am interested in perhaps taking a printmaking class. EOD
In the aftermath of the tragedy which struck Dallas, I have seen how much collective community reflection has been going on for all of us. I see how this is happening not only in our community but on a national scale and global scale. We are all facing troubling times and it can feel overwhelming to try and know what to do as an individual and as a consequence, feel unable to act. I feel it is vitally important for us to each know what is ours to do. This is the power of the collective and how we are all connected and that small acts really can make a difference. It can also focus our energies in productive and sustainable ways that benefits us and the collective at the same time, instead of getting caught in some kind of competition where envy and jealousy can get in the way. When we know what is ours to do, we no longer compare ourselves to others or need to marginalize them to make us appear better. Dreams can help us get a glimpse of what is ours to do and what actions we may take. This is an important part of what I teach as an Active Dream Teacher.
Synchronicity has also been at play for me this past week, as reflections of the collective seem to be revealing themselves in the fashion of the mirror. I recently read about an workshop being done locally on healing the sisterhood, which asks each participant to bring a hand held mirror. Today, I read of a huge action being planned at the Republican National Convention where 100 women will pose nude for world famous photographer Spencer Tunick. He will have them all holding mirrors during the photo shoot, titled “Everything She Says Means Everything,” 100 naked women will hold up large mirror discs that, according to the artist’s website, represent “reflecting the knowledge and wisdom of progressive women and the concept of ‘Mother Nature’” The intention of this action is to reflect this embodied divine feminine wisdom onto the RNC convention floor.
The dream also has a deeper more personal connection for me. The silver antique motif of the Universal dream mirror reflects the connection I share with a dear sister. When we first became friends over 12 years ago, we decided we wanted to pair up to offer a workshop for women. We talked about offering body centered, experiential work for women to help reveal the shadow and repair the rifts between women.
We met over coffee to begin planning the workshop and an energy came between us we could both sense. It was a very spiritual energy and inside this energy, we could both see a mirror hanging in mid air between us. We both talked about what we were experiencing and confirmed what we both saw. It was the presence of divine feminine energy joining in our planning meeting.
The next time we met to discuss our plans, we again felt the presence of the mirror, only this time for me, I could see in my minds eye it was an actual physical mirror located at an antique shop near us. I told my friend and we decided to go check it out. Upon entering, I walked directly over to a place in the shop, where there was a beautiful hand mirror hiding behind a plate. I turned the mirror over and found that on the other side, it held a design of three dancing goddesses. My friend also found her mirror, which matched what she was seeing in her vision. The antique silver frame motif from her mirror, now shows up on my Universal Collective Dream mirror.
Another interesting part of the Universal Mirror is how it showed up for me in my dream as a large circular mirror hanging from the ceiling in the lobby of a community center. My friend shared with me when she returned from Peru recently, that she had visited a room inside a cathedral where they had all these large antique mirrors that were tilted and hanging from the ceiling. It was said that it is a place where the energies of the universe are also looking through at us, just as we are also seeing them. This resembles exactly how the mirror in my dream was placed, it was tilted and hanging from the ceiling, and perhaps also, where the voice was coming from inside the mirror.
The breakfast table is a wonderful place to start the day and begin the conversation with “ Did you dream last night?” Allowing your children to share their dreams over breakfast, while listening patiently and attentively, gives your child center stage to tell you their life stories as they unfold in dreams each night. It teaches them excellent story telling skills and they may want to color or paint images or keep a dream journal and find themselves to become gifted artists or writers. Dream sharing can become the bridge to bring forth the creative gifts of storyteller, actor, writer and artist, from the imagination and into the waking world. When your child shares their night adventures in dreaming, we never want respond from a place of all-knowing towards its meaning, or marginalize their experience by laughing or saying it was “only just” a dream. Listening is the best gift we can give them, especially for young children.
Older children and adult family members may want to learn the Lightning dreamwork method, pioneered by dream explorer and author, Robert Moss. The dreamer shares their dream in present tense, as if it were happening right now and without adding additional information or analysis. We begin to discover the dream by asking, how did you feel when you woke up from the dream? Then the next step is the reality check, and in it we want to look for clues pointing toward anything that could play out in waking life. Dreaming events before they happen is entirely natural and something we can all do. The next step in the process is determining what you most want to know from the dream. It is at this phase the dream can be passed around to other family members to share their insights on the dream from the perspective of “If this were my dream…” We want to respect the dreamer and the dream, by not presenting ourselves as the expert on another persons’ dream. The last step of the process is to determine an Action Plan. What Action would best honor your dream? The Lightning dreamwork method is a process which should move quickly and take all of 10 minutes. It is a helpful way to begin the day, and share your dreams with loved ones.
Dreaming is fun and children know how to get around in their dreams, they may allow the soul to take flight to find magical realms of exploration. Families can learn to share in these dream explorations together and determine a specific place to meetup in their dreams for a budget friendly family vacation. Family dream sharing may also include reports of dreaming with departed relatives, something which is valued in many cultures across the globe.
Dream Re-Entry is a powerful tool to use in dream work, especially if you feel your dream may be giving you information about a possible future. It allows you to consciously go back inside the dream with a specific intention, to get more information and perhaps help you determine the best action to take. It can also be valuable when scary dreams may come. When my daughter was 4-year-old, she shared a dream with me over breakfast one morning about zombies chasing her through her dreams every night. I suggested to her the next time she had the dream, why not turn around and ask them, “Why are you chasing me?” She did just that the very next night, and the Zombies responded, “We want you to turn us into butterflies.” In the dream, she did just that, and the very scary Zombies who had terrorized her, became beautiful butterflies. What a wonderful experience for anyone to have, to change our fears into beauty and empowerment. Of course things like that can happen, when we share our dreams and learn what action to take.
It’s Only Just a Dream….how many of us have heard this seemingly harmless phrase after sharing a dream with someone at some point in our lives? I have heard stories from others who tell of their “Just a Dream” experiences, often in childhood, and what followed was a lack of respect for the dreamer and the dream, leaving a scar and broken trust. But what you will see in my story is a tale of caution, where labeling a dream as “Just a Dream” could spell the difference between life and death.
Back in the mid 80’s I worked for a Commercial Real Estate Developer in Downtown Dallas, Texas during the Savings & Loan Crisis, which caused many companies to go bankrupt. The company I worked for was no exception, and so I also became a casualty of the economic crisis and suddenly found myself out of a job. I was young with limited work experience and found it difficult to find work. The only job I could find was to work as a rose girl trolling through bars in the evenings selling roses to amorous couples, or some guy hoping to get lucky with that pretty girl.
One night before I was scheduled to work as a “rose girl”, I had an unusual dream that changed my life.
Belle Starr Rose Girl Shot Dead
I see myself dressed in my rose girl uniform in a red jacket, black shorts and fishnet nose, and I am walking around Belle Star, a popular country and western bar, carrying my rose basket. I walk slowly around the bar and it is crowded. I make my rounds through the place and head back towards the front, as I do a man bursts through the door and begins shooting. I see myself hold my neck with one hand as I fall to the ground in slow motion and the roses spilling out everywhere. I have been shot in the neck, and am lying dead on the floor surrounded by a pool of blood with roses spread all around me. EOD.
I awake from this dream terrified, my body is shaking and I know I have just seen my own death. I shared the dream, fearing for my life, with my now ex-husband, who tells me frankly, “Oh it is just a dream,……..you have to go to work we need the money.” I was almost persuaded by his goading and pressure that I needed to go to work, but I was still very afraid, and so I called into work to tell them I was sick and would not be coming in. They were very upset with me, and told me they had given me the very best route of clubs to work that night and I would make alot of money. They told me what clubs they had scheduled me to work and at what time, and Belle Star was one of the clubs on that list. They also told me if I didn’t come to work and called in sick they would have to fire me. I didn’t want to lose my job and so I somehow mustered the courage to get myself dressed for work and drove in that direction. While driving down the highway, I saw a really bad car accident that had just happened. The car was totaled and I could somehow sense that someone had died in that car wreck. My hands began to shake on the steering wheel, and I began to feel the same sensation I experienced in the dream about seeing my own death. I could not physically force myself to drive to work after that, I was too shaken by the whole experience, and my body knew the real danger I was heading toward. I turned around and drove home instead.
My then husband at the time, was very angry with me, and yelled at me for being irresponsible by not going to work. My employer was not pleased with me either and fired me for not showing up for my shift. I was feeling pretty low about the whole situation. The next day however, on the front page of the newspaper, was a story about a man who had gone into a popular country western bar called Belle Starr and began shooting, and two people were shot. http://www.chron.com/CDA/archives/archive.mpl/1987_443477/man-dressed-in-black-shoots-2-in-dallas-club.html
I was astounded, that could have been me! I felt I had been touched by grace somehow, and that for some reason I was given information in a dream which saved my life. Clearly there was more to dreaming than I had previously been lead to believe. Never again would I look at any dream as “just a dream”.
My life changed after that day and I made a determination to honor my dreams from that day forward. I began to look more deeply into the messages my dreams had for me, and I started writing my dreams down in journals. I soon realized by keeping a dream journal, that many dreams I recorded had content which connected to events in waking life. They were not as dramatic as the rose girl dream, but just normal everyday occurrences would also appear in my dreams. I discovered that deja vu experiences I had often had, were a result of having dreamt it before, rather than lived it before. I determined that dreams are a place where we can create our life and often give us glimpses of what may come. I also began to have out of body experiences, and once found myself hovering above my body connected to my physical body by a luminous cord of fuchsia colored light which lit up the entire room in that hue. I felt the strong loving energy of the light which enveloped the room, and was confused about why I was looking at my physical body asleep in bed as I was hovering above. I wondered how this could happen, and suddenly found myself slammed back into my body and abruptly woke up. I was having what is known as an “out of body experience”, but at the time I was unfamiliar with this, and so I began to explore lucid dreaming and astral travel. I learned that I was not confined to my physical body but could travel in my night time excursions beyond the physical.
These experiences were a turning point in my life, which set me on an exploration of consciousness, dreaming and shamanism. I have recorded my dreams now for over 25 years and studied many aspects and approaches to dreaming. The approach that I value most is Active Dreaming, a synthesis of modern day dream work with ancient shamanic dream practices. Active Dreaming was developed through the pioneering work of Robert Moss and it is through his dream teacher training and depth workshops over the years that I have joined the ranks of dream teachers around the world who are helping to create a dream sharing community once again. I offer classes and workshops on Active Dreaming where we explore the many ways dreams provide guidance and healing as we travel our life path and beyond. Dreams have the ability to lead us out of danger and onto a path of heart and soul. All we have to do to start on this path is dream, and share our dreams in a way that offers respect for the dreamer and the dream. The lightning method of dream sharing is an excellent way to share dreams in a way begins with the felt sense of the dreamer upon waking, followed by a reality check, for clues of a possible future which may play out in our dreams. The process asks “What do you most want to know from the dream” as an important touch stone to work from and then moves to “What action do you want to take?” This process is a quick method of dream sharing that points to the important aspects to work from when discovering your dreams. Dreaming the future does not mean your waking life must play out the same way. My story exemplifies how it is possible to change the outcome of a dream, if appropriate action is taken. Conversely, if a dream is showing us our heart’s desire, we have only to gather our courage and act.
