Jung and the Mysteries of Wordless Transmission

Niān huá wéi xiào – pick up flower, subtle smile

Vernal Equinox March 20, 2020

As I lay in bed, immersed in some dream I can’t recall, my cat stirred me from my dream, while shaking his head intensely, ringing the bell on his collar. The sound and shaking effect, shuffled my dreams like a deck of cards. Each card flipping by was a thin reality of other dreams. I landed in a dream in black and white, where an old man wearing speckles held out a colorful bright pink origami lotus flower in his palm, while looking at me directly and smiling. – Dream ending.

A  lot of energy was held in that small bright pink lotus. I paused to feel the heightened crisp energy in the dream space between black and white, past and present, and the colorful seed of awakening I was being offered.

It was held in the hand of Carl Jung. I felt he was offering a symbol from the collective unconsciousness about spiritual unfoldment, synchronicity, dreams, and multidimensional reality. I woke up immediately to record my dream in a dream journaling app on my phone. But instead of writing my dream down immediately, as I would normally, I found myself scrolling through previous dream reports.

I landed on a previous dream I had recorded about Carl Jung and Synchronicity. There’s that dream shuffle again. I was amazed when I found it, because it was as if I was looking for it unconsciously. I could feel the energy of the lotus from my dream, now surrounding me in my physical space, in the form of synchronicity.  I knew I was being sent an important message.

Dream Lecture and Synchronicity News – March 8, 2020

I pull out a newspaper from the trash can, and it has a long article about synchronicity on the front page. The headline is in large bold letters, but very long sentences. I take the paper over to a group of women meeting in a building of a co-working space. I have a book on dreams by Carl Jung in one hand, and a newspaper article on synchronicity in the other. I join their meeting and begin talking about the topic of dreams and synchronicity. I do so by example of finding this newspaper article on synchronicity in the bathroom trash, right before coming to give this lecture on dreams. – Dream ending.

In the potent energy held in the Archetype, Jung reaches across time and space to send me messages in dreams and synchronicity. This is a fascinating study in consciousness. The Pink Lotus itself is an archetype associated with the Buddha and nirvana. In some Buddhist traditions paper lotus flowers are created and burned as ancestral offerings or for those who have crossed over, or as a kind of spiritual currency, offering appreciation for blessings, and invoking good fortune of prosperity and health (Shih-Mou).

Zen Buddhism is rooted in the wordless transmission of the Flower Sermon, where the Buddha holds up a Lotus Flower with a smile, and is received by a smile from Mahakashyapa, who then becomes his entrusted successor (Dumoulin, pg. 9).

Jung writes, “One day the Buddha silently held up a flower before the assembled throng of his disciples. This was the famous “Flower Sermon.” Formally speaking, much the same thing happened in Eleusis when a mown ear of grain was silently shown. Even if our interpretation of this symbol is erroneous, the fact remains that a mown ear was shown in the course of the mysteries and that this kind of “wordless sermon” was the sole form of instruction in Eleusis which we may assume with certainty” (Jung, Kereny, pg. 179).

Now this connection comes with the arrival of my dream on the Vernal Equinox, a time when the Elysian Lesser Mysteries took place, in preparation for the Greater Mysteries in the Fall, as referenced by Jung in the image of harvested grain. As the fates would have it, I did take part in journeying into the Lesser Elysian Mysteries, weeks after having this dream, when I participated in an online class series by Robert Moss on Shamanic Dreaming with the Goddess.

In my journey, it is revealed that as Demeter the Mother, I enter the underworld in search for Kore. I present her with a white flower.

Dreams are a path of direct experience, and wordless transmission, through the potency of archetypal energies. Synchronicity is the transmission of messages from the world behind the world, which may include written words, or words of speech overhead, or a song that comes on the radio, or a dream image showing up in waking life, accompanied by a larger energy of recognition that may feel other worldly. The mysteries of the collective unconscious are a place we frequent in dreams. In my dream, Carl Jung presented this to me as a pink paper lotus and a smile.

Buddha Purnima

Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth. – Buddha

The May Full Moon celebrates the Birth, enlightenment and death of Siddhartha Guatama Buddha. It is a day celebrated and honored at many countries across the world. A time during which the Buddha is known to return to the Earthly realm.

The conception of Buddha to Queen Maya, was foretold in a dream, that of a white elephant with six tusks entering her right side. Her dream was interpreted that she would give birth to a world leader or a Buddha.

I recall a lucid dream from years ago, where I looked down at my legs and saw they were the wrinkled legs of a white elephant. I was amazed! I heard a voice say, don’t you know you do this all the time…..Shapeshift???

This Scorpio Full Moon is a time of dreaming, what we will give birth to the world. A time for the truth to be revealed, to look into the darkness and see what we are truly aligned with becoming and living as a unique individual, as a compassionate human being, and as part of the Earth community of the natural world. The term Buddha means “awakened one” and when we become conscious dreamers, we are on the path toward understanding the mystic nature of reality. Like the Moon, our dreams can help us reflect light into the darkness.  Our conscious dream travels can also guide us into the heavenly realms of experience with spiritual teachers, and divine beings, or the deepest depths of the Ocean, in connection with primordial feminine wisdom.

My celebration of Purnima, was a beautiful full moon ceremony guided by Bhola, a beloved shamanic teacher from Nepal. He guided us on a journey into the bottom of the sea, where we met up with a giant conch shell, and entered into a deep ancient wisdom, spiraling deeper under ground at the bottom of the Ocean. In my journey, I experienced a tremendous wave of rainbow energy enter my being and offering healing in my womb, and then traveling up into my solar plexus and throat and ears, and finally coming out through my third eye as a cobra. My body began to shake from the energy rising through me. I then saw 4 Naga spirits dancing as they rose into the ethers, carrying me with them. I was given several white wind horses to travel upon, like a wave or a cloud. I was told to continue to travel with the wind horses. I felt my spirit rise with the freedom of spiritual adventure, and the beautiful energy surrounding me. Lung-Ta in Tibet is the name given for prayer flags and means wind horse. The Nagi are semi-divine serpent beings, known to give special powers, and guard treasures under the sea.

I returned from this journey with such gratitude, feeling relaxed and nurtured, and a deep sense of healing and belonging in myself.

A few days previous to this full moon shamanic journey, I was taking a nap and recalled a dream from years ago, of discovering a mysterious blue starfish. The starfish was held inside an ancient carved lava rock alcove alongside a beach. I walked into the alcove to get a closer look and when I did, I discovered the fossilized starfish had awoken, and was looking back at me. I took the starfish from out of the stone alcove and set it on my shoulder. I began whispering sweet loving words to the starfish to return her to her human form. Hearing those loving words, while being carried on my shoulder, helped her remember how much she is loved, and she changed back into a Grandmother. I returned her to her village, where she was received with loving, open arms.

Upon waking, I thought it was important to revisit this dream story, by creating artwork to depict the story. At that moment, a friend contacted me and wanted to schedule a private session with me together with her and her 6 year old daughter. We agreed to a time to journey together in sacred space, and I told her of just awakening from a nap where I was recalling my dream story of the blue starfish, that was meant to be a children’s story.  She mentioned her daughter had just the other day, been talking about wanting to search for starfish on the beach. I took the message of synchronicity, that we were meant to journey into the ocean realms on a magical mermaid journey with the moon and the stars. Together we journeyed guided by the sound of the drum, held by the bright moon above, and we delved into visiting a treasure filled sea cave in the magical ocean realms of mermaid. In my journey, I saw the blue starfish at the end, which was actually a falling star from the heavens, and 2 gold coins left by the mermaid.  The very next day, I found myself journeying to the bottom of the sea, into an ancient conch shell. On the altar for the journey to the bottom of the sea, part of the offerings I was told to prepare, included 2 coins. Namaste

Shapeshifting with the White Animals

On May 12th in Greenville, Texas a white buffalo was born named Lightning Medicine Cloud after being born during a Thunderstorm. It is said to be part of the Native American prophecy of the Lakota Sioux Tribe and the 3rd white buffalo recognized as born to fulfill the Native American prophecy of earth changes.  Lightning Medicine Cloud was born to a Lakota Sioux couple on their ranch in North Texas and it is only the second white buffalo ever born on Native American lands.  Around the same time this auspicious buffalo calf was born, I found myself having contact with the White animals in dreaming.  My dream encounters with the White Animals has been profound for me and I continue to carry their presence.

Shapeshifting with the White Elephant  April 24th, 2011

In my dream I see myself as I look now, I then see that I have shapeshifted into a White Elephant. I look closely at my skin and see the white wrinkled elephant skin covering my body. I hear a voice tell me, “This is something you do all the time, shapeshift.”

Several weeks later after that dream, I had an encounter with a council of White Animals during my shavassana meditation during a Kundalini yoga class.

Council of the White Animals – May10, 2011

In my mind’s eye,  I  hover above my body laying on the floor in shavassana pose, I look to my right and see a doorway of light open up and a magnificent white elephant approaches me. I then see in front of my feet the White Buffalo has joined me, then near my left shoulder a white tiger snuggles up next to me licking my cheek, while on my right, a white lion with beautiful blue eyes looks deeply into my eyes. I then notice a white giraffe has joined the white elephant and I look up above and see a white eagle circling over my body above me and there are many more white birds flying higher  in the air. I then see a white snake slither up toward me and enter into my body where it curls up in my second chakra. I notice a white bear is now standing near my feet next to the White Buffalo and then a white gorilla appears next and begins to jump up and down.  I now feel a white owl is sitting on my left shoulder and finally a white horse appears standing over my head.  I am overwhelmed by the white animals which are gathering around my body as others continue to join in. I had this experience just two days before the White Buffalo was born less than an hours drive from where I live.  I have never had a dream about a white buffalo before  nor seen one appear in my meditations either.

Not long after this experience,  I facilitated a dream group during the Wesak Full Moon celebrating the birth of the Buddha who was foretold to be born to his mother by a dream of her being pregnant with a white elephant. We journeyed together as a group assisted by shamanic drumming to consciously  connect with the presence of the white animals and the spiritual energies present during Wesak which celebrates his physical birth, spiritual rebirth and death of the Buddha.

What I take away from these waking and sleeping dream experiences is that it is time to shift awareness to connect with higher spiritual energies and shape shift my reality to embody the changes. I accept the message of my dream that “this is something I do all the time”.

I shall embrace the energy of  transfiguration in my own life and celebrate the birth of that energy actually embodied in the white buffalo calf  as part of the earth changes and spiritual energies now shape shifting our reality.

The Gifts of the White Animals

May the White Elephant bring the strength and wisdom of the Buddha and augur in an new age of spiritual enlightenment and compassion.

May the White Buffalo bring the presence of the great spirit and the wisdom of prophecy.

May the White Eagle fly to new heights of perception and clarity.

May the White Tiger bring her nurturing, playful and fierce spirit of love and protection.

May the White Lion bring depth of beauty and strength of heart and courage.

May the White Snake bring its energy of creativity and healing.

May the White Giraffe bring it’s ability to take risks and stick it’s neck out to reach the most delectable heights of success.

May the White Bear stand it’s ground and give support.

May the White Gorilla bring unbounded energy and the ability to speak out.

May the White Owl bring Wise council.

May the White Horse carry me with it’s noble spirit into dreaming.
